Alaska's Joe Miller bank-rolled by South Carolina's Jim DeMint?

December 23, 2010

I'm short on time once again, but this article in the Anchorage Daily News strongly implies that Joe Miller's legal battle for the Alaska Senator position has been primarily bank-rolled by a conservative Senator from South Carolina named Jim DeMint. According to the article, Joe Miller has raised $250,000 since the election ended, "most of it from DeMint."

At first I had hope for this article, but unfortunately its written as more "opinion" than "fact". For all we know, DeMint gave Miller $10K, and every other contribution was less than $10K, hence he gave "the most". The only facts stated are that Miller has raised $250K-plus since the election, and he had about $900K in November (though it's not even clear if his campaign had this money, or he had it personally).

(I just did some Googling on this, and all I could find is that Jim DeMint raised $5.6M for his own campaign. There is probably a place where Mr. Miller's contributions need to be publicly shown, but I don't know where that is yet.)

As far as I can tell, the article is filed under the adn.com "Alaska politics blog", and the article's author has his own blog/website. To which I say, "Dear adn.com, please provide some facts to back up the statements in this article."
