Recent deaths in Alaska
January 27, 2011
I don't mean to make light of recent deaths in Alaska in any way, but people in Alaska have died in a variety of different ways lately. The recent deaths include:
- A person avoiding hitting a moose in car
- A person hitting a moose in a car
- A snowmobile ("snowmachine") rider hitting a telephone or electric pole
- A murder in Trapper Creek, Alaska
- A young student dying from exposure to the elements while walking home from school
There have probably been a few more unusual deaths here lately -- causes of death you won't find in the Lower 48 -- but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. (I thought there was also a story of one or more people who fell through a crack in the ice of a lake or river, but I can't find that in the news.)
Again, I don't mean to make light of these deaths in Alaska at all, I just wanted to point out some of the unusual dangers that face people here in Alaska.
